Weekly market update, April 19, 2024

Indian equity markets recorded weekly declines as sentiments were dampened following the heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 declined 1.56% and 1.65%, respectively in the week ended on April 19. The BSE Midcap and the Smallcap indices also ended lower this week, declined by 2.21% and 0.96%, respectively. Most of the sectoral indices also ended the week in red, with the BSE Oil & Gas index being an exception.

Meanwhile, Analysts expect that investors will keenly eye several stock market triggers in the fourth week of the month with the ongoing  Q4 FY2023-24 results, domestic and global macroeconomic data, developments around general elections 2024, impact of the Israel-Iran conflict, crude oil prices, US bond yields, and global cues.
