Weekly market update, Oct 09, 2026
Indian equity indices snapped its eight-week losing streak and ended the week higher as easing crude oil prices and positive corporate updates supported a late-week recovery. However, the recovery remained modest amid concerns over elevated crude oil prices and tighter monetary conditions. For the week, the Nifty 50 gained 0.44%, while the Sensex rose 0.78%. The broader market indices, BSE 150 Midcap and BSE 250 Smallcap declined by 0.49% and 0.38%. On the BSE sectoral front, it was mixed. BSE FMCG was the major gainer, up 2.43%, followed by Bankex, up 1.31%. BSE Metal was the major loser, down 4.18%, followed by Auto, down 2.16%, Healthcare, down 2.13%.
The week ahead will see investors track India’s retail and wholesale inflation data, the September-quarter earnings season, new IPOs and key global economic indicators. Crude oil prices and foreign institutional investor (FII) activity will remain key drivers of domestic market sentiment through the week. The September-quarter earnings season will gather pace, with investors tracking results across the information technology, banking, financial services and consumer sectors. Global markets will track US inflation data, and China’s September trade data and inflation figures.
