Weekly market update, Aug 21, 2026
Indian equity markets extended their losses to a second straight week. Persistent concerns over elevated crude oil prices, a lack of progress in US-Iran negotiations, and rising US bond yields weighed on market sentiment. For the week, the Nifty 50 dropped around 0.47%, while the Sensex declined nearly 0.60%. Broader market indices, the BSE 150 Midcap ended the week on flat note and BSE 250 Smallcap gained by 0.36%. On the BSE sectoral front, it was mixed. BSE Metal was the major gainer, up 0.60%, followed by Bankex, up 0.15%, respectively. BSE IT was the major loser, down 2.61% followed by FMCG, down 1.71% and Healthcare, down 0.84%.
Looking ahead, In the coming week, investors will closely track crude oil price movements, developments in the ongoing US-Iran geopolitical tensions, US Fed chairman Kevin Warsh’s much-awaited first keynote speech and global macroeconomic trends for further direction in the market.
