Weekly market update, Jul 24, 2026

Indian equity markets declined as crude oil prices continued to surge in global markets, heightening concerns over potential disruptions to global energy supplies amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Sentiment remained subdued with rising US bond yields and US announcement of new tariffs on certain countries. For the week, the Sensex lost 2.68%, while the Nifty shed 2.33%. Broader market indices, the BSE 150 Midcap and BSE 250 Smallcap declined by 1.41% and 2.41% respectively. On the BSE sectoral front, Most declined. BSE Bankex was the major loser, down 2.87% followed by IT, down 1.81% and Healthcare, down 0.79%. BSE FMCG was the major gainer, up 0.48%.

Looking ahead, Investors are expected to keep a close watch in the coming week on crude oil prices, geopolitical developments in the Middle East, corporate earnings and signals from central banks as they gauge whether the latest bout of volatility in global equities has further to run. On global front, A wobbly U.S. stock market will take its cues in the coming week from a Federal Reserve meeting set to shed light on the ​path for interest rates, and from a packed slate of corporate earnings led by technology companies and heavyweights in artificial intelligence.
