Weekly market update, Feb 14, 2025
Domestic benchmark indices declined after snapping two weeks of recovery. The sentiment remained negative from the very beginning and dragged by persistent foreign fund outflows amid US trade tariff concerns and weak quarterly earnings. On a weekly basis, the NSE Nifty 50 declined by 2.67%, while the BSE Sensex ended 2.47% lower. Broader market indices declined the most. The BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap declined by 7.71% and 9.47%, respectively. On sectoral front, Nifty Realty declined by 9.31%, while Nifty Media, Nifty Energy, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty Pharma all dropped between 5% and 9%, respectively.
According to experts, the markets are likely to experience positive momentum in the coming week. Market participants in the coming week starting from Monday are expected to react to the Foreign Institutional Investments flow, currency movement, speculation regarding US tariffs and their impact on global trade and key domestic data.
