Weekly market update, Jan 24, 2025

The Indian benchmark indices extended their losses to the third consecutive week as earnings woes continue to hurt investor sentiments. Net selling by foreign investors is adding pressure on the market performance. On a weekly basis, the Nifty fell 0.48%, while the 30-stock Sensex slipped 0.56%. The broader indices underperformed as the BSE MidCap closed 4.57% lower and SmallCap ended 4.21% lower. On Sectoral front, it was mixed. The information-technology stocks outperformed all sectors during the week.

According to market experts, Investors will monitor key market triggers in the last week of January, with markets entering the second month of 2025. The next set of December quarter (Q3FY2025) results, Budget 2025 and economic survey, scheduled expiry of January’s derivative contracts, US Federal Reserve verdict, auto sales figures, domestic and global macroeconomic data, foreign fund outflows, crude oil prices and global cues.
